Jane is available to teach a variety of workshops

BOOKMAKING

The foundation book making workshop “Simply Sewn Books” is a lot of fun. Learn the basics of book making and have fun with a selection of basic book structures. No measuring or expensive specialist tools required and there is no glue involved in this workshop! Expect to take home at least 5 simple books and a variety of ideas to expand on what you learn in the workshop. All materials are supplied, and the basic tools will be available for use in the workshop.

Other workshops are: “Hardbound Books” – make a traditional hardbound book with book cloth covered spine and decorative paper covers

“Taped Up” – a traditional book structure sewn on tapes but with an artistic twist!

“Leather Bound Books” –  attach your book sections to a flexible cover using a decorative stitch pattern.

“Eco Books” – a fun workshop using recycled materials

INTRODUCTION TO ECO DYEING WORKSHOP

An introduction to dyeing with our native plants. In this 3 hour workshop you will learn the basics of using our local eucalypts to colour cloth based on India Flint’s books Eco Colour and Second Skin. This method uses no harsh chemicals as mordants  and creates soft, subtle colours on protein fibres.  It is an alchemic process with no guaranteed results – after each dye bath I am always surprised and delighted at what the dyepot yields! Using very simple resists to create patterns you will dye a silk scarf 160cm x 28cm during the workshop.
