Feeling Blue!

Ordering dyes for the lace in the previous post encouraged me to include a couple of experimental natural colours too.

These are the results from the gardenia natural dye – the most brilliant turquoise blue – very pretty and a total change from the soft, muted colours of the australian bush.  This dye required two mordants – tannin and alum – this makes it into a lengthy process before you even put the colour onto the cloth.  I much prefer India Flint’s methods – it suits my impatient nature!
